As a first time, single, teenage mother I struggled hugely with the concept of returning to university after my daughter was born as I was so protective and didn’t want anyone else to look after her. I found a nearby nursery and immediately fell in love with Jess, as did my daughter. It was very clear early on that my daughter had ALN and if it wasn’t for Jess’ attentive, empathetic and caring nature I truly believe that I never would have finished my course which ultimately resulted in me being able to obtain the career that I’ve always wanted. My daughter is now nearly 10 and still speaks of Jess as if she were family, from time to time.
